Who we are

Cooloon Children’s Centre Inc. acknowledge the Minjungbal people of the Bundjalung nation as the traditional custodians of this land on which Cooloon Children’s Centre Inc. is built and where we play and learn.

Cooloon is the original name of Tweed Heads and is an aboriginal word meaning place of many trees and it is inspired our room names of Jalum (fish) and Jubi (crabs).

The guiding principles of Cooloon Children’s Centre Inc. are that the health, safety and rights of children and adults will be protected and enhanced within a happy, caring and stimulating educational environment.

At Cooloon we know that young children learn best by 'doing'. The underlying understanding is that children, in the early years, explore the world around them by using the senses of touching, tasting, listening, smelling and looking. They test ideas, learn sizes, shapes and colours and begin noticing relationships between things.

We know that if we build on this philosophy, we are helping children become enthusiastic learners. This means encouraging children to be active and creative explorers, unafraid of trying ideas and thinking their own thoughts. Our goal is to help children become independent, self confident, inquisitive learners whilst allowing them to learn at their own pace in ways which are best for them.

  • To provide and maintain the highest quality children’s service that is responsive to the need of our children and families.

  • All children will have access to high quality early childhood experiences.

  • All families will be supported in early parenting.
