"Where childhood matters...."
Welcome to Cooloon Children's Centre
Cooloon Children's Centre is a community based long daycare centre that has been operating since 1984. We provide education and care for babies to school aged children 50 weeks of the year 7.30am - 6.00pm NSW time.
Cooloon Children’s Centre Inc. acknowledge the Minjungbal people of the Bundjalung nation as the traditional custodians of this land on which Cooloon Children’s Centre Inc. is built and where we play and learn.
The program at Cooloon is a play-based program based on the fundamentals of Belonging Being and Becoming, The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF).
The EYLF provides guidelines for all early childhood educators and services. It describes five learning outcomes and has three components: principles, practices and learning outcomes. The 3 main ideas of Belonging, Being and Becoming are interwoven through the document.
Belonging - Is about young children knowing where they belong and with whom.
Being - Is about the importance of the experience of childhood for their own sake, not just as preparation for later development or adulthood.
Becoming - Is about the growth and changes that occur in the early years and how these are shaped by experiences.
Understanding how children learn through play can sometimes be difficult for families. In thinking about your own learning, it is important to reflect on how that was supported when you were interested in the task, had time to test out your ideas and take as much time as you needed to master the skill. This is exactly what it takes for children to learn to the best of their ability.
Jubi Room
(Babies and toddlers)
We understand the significance of nurturing and building relationships with very young children alongside their families. It is these strong relationships and a sense of belonging that are built from consistent, emotional support that gives young children a secure base for their learning and exploration.
Jalum Room
(Preschoolers)
In the Jalum room our children are aged from 3-5 yrs. As this is a wide age range with children at varying stages of development, at certain times during the day we divide into two groups - Jalum Kindy group (the younger children) and the Jalum Preschool group (the children that are eligible to go to school the following year).
Preschool Enrichment
You will observe children practising their drawing/writing skills, as they first begin to scribble and then show an interest in writing their name, counting with rhymes and games, problem solving with puzzles, being inventive and creative with craft, art, blocks, sand play and natural play outside.
